The Valletta Baroque Festival, a celebration of baroque music in lavish settings produced by Festivals Malta, is well under way.

Since its opening on January 8, the festival has been packed with locals and tourists across all of its performances, with Festivals Malta calling it a “record attendance”.

Under the artistic direction of Kenneth Zammit Tabona, this 14th edition has welcomed several international and local artists and ensembles, with concerts at iconic locations such as St John’s Co-Cathedral and the Manoel Theatre drawing full audiences night after night.

Now in its last week, the programme includes large-scale vocal and instrumental works and a fully staged baroque opera, Pelopida, a recently rediscovered opera by Maltese-Italian composer Girolamo Abos.

The Valletta Baroque Festival, which runs until Sunday, is organised by Festivals Malta in collaboration with the Manoel Theatre, supported by Visit Malta and the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, and sponsored by Schweppes.
