A public lecture on J.R.R. Tolkien and his mother that was scheduled to take place on March 6, has been postponed to March 13 at 7.30pm.
The lecture, titled ‘Like Mother, Like Son: J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Conversion’ to Catholicism’, will explore the close bond between the renowned English author and his mother Mabel.
The latter’s conversion to Catholicism and subsequent hardships are said to have shaped her son’s faith, outlook and later literary themes of sacrifice, suffering and enduring love.
The lecture will be delivered by Fr Geoffrey G. Attard.
Tolkien is the author of the epic fantasy novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, which have been turned into cinema blockbusters in the past years.
