Michelle Gialanze, known as Mixa Painting, has been selected to exhibit at Palazzo Mora, Venice, as part of Personal Structures, a major international exhibition held in parallel with the 2026 Venice Biennale.
Organised by the European Cultural Centre (ECC), Personal Structures is recognised as one of the most prominent and intellectually rigorous exhibitions staged alongside the biennale.
Mixa’s practice centres on creating pigments and textured surfaces derived from organic and raw elements, allowing the physical substance of the earth to become an integral part of the visual narrative.
Through this process, her paintings move beyond representation to become material experiences – layered, tactile works that reflect themes of identity, memory and human connection to the natural world. The use of natural media lends each piece a sense of authenticity and grounding, reinforcing the dialogue between fragility and resilience that characterises her work.
“This opportunity represents an important step in bringing my contemporary art into a broader international dialogue,” Gialanze said. “To exhibit in Venice at Palazzo Mora within this context is both an honour and a profound responsibility.”
On display at the historic Palazzo Mora, one of the principal venues of Personal Structures, Mixa’s work will be presented within a museum-level curated framework for the full six-month duration of the exhibition.
The show attracts an international audience of curators, collectors, museum directors, critics and cultural institutions during the biennale period.
Personal Structures opens to invited guests during the biennale preview days on May 9 and remains on view until November 22, concluding with the ECC Award Ceremony.
Mixa’s participation is supported by Arts Council Malta, Visit Malta, Farsons and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
