With the 2023 Met Gala just days away, here’s everything you need to know to follow the biggest night in the world of fashion

Lady Gaga’s four outfit changes in mere minutes; Rihanna channelling the Pope; and Blake Lively paying homage to the Statue of Liberty… The Met Gala is annual charity dinner that attracts the attention of the whole world, is attended by the world’s biggest stars, and raises eight-figure sums for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York. What happens inside the actual event is top secret, with all 600ish attendees banned from carrying their phones or posting on social media, but one thing that is always on display is the gorgeous fashion.

The 2023 Met Gala will take place next week and will once again mark the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition held at the Met. This year’s theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, with the life, times, and talent of the iconic designer whose work featured in the catwalks for Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou, his eponymous fashion house, and Chanel, being celebrated.

This year’s Gala will be hosted by Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, and the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, who has overseen this glittering evening since 1995. The dress code for this year’s event is, rather fittingly, ‘in honour of Karl’, and we simply can’t wait to see what designers and celebrities come up with.

Like many things related to this highly-anticipated event, the list of attendees is still under wraps, though rumours that the Kardashian-Jenner clan has been disinvited do not seem to hold any water at the time of writing. Either way, expect to see some huge names take to the red carpet and showcase their tributes to Karl Lagerfeld.

For those who wish to follow the 2023 Met Gala live, the event will take place this Monday, May 1, at 6.30pm EST, which means it will be live for Maltese audiences at 12.30am on Tuesday, May 2. You can follow it on vogue.com, or else on Vogue’s social media channels.
