5 nutritious comfort foods to warm you up

The change of weather is imminent, finally to cosy up with some warm noms.

We all crave comfort food, especially when it’s cold out or if it’s raining. I used to enjoy frozen pizzas when I was younger, but now I look for filling dishes that give me nutrients and a healthy gut. Here are some of my go-to comfort foods that keep me satisfied during fresher weather.

Butternut Squash Soup

My ultimate favourite to open the autumn season. This warm and comforting soup goes great with a slice of wholegrain toast (or croutons, because, why not?) and a dash of creme fraiche. Pair it with a nice cup of herbal tea and you’ve got the perfect dinner.

Chilli Con Carne

If you’re in the mood for something spicy, chilli con carne is the way to go. This warm dish is packed with protein and nutrients to keep your body going for the rest of the day. Pair it with rice or eat it on its own. I prefer the latter. Yum!

Cinnamon Baked Apples

Apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, and more – this sweet treat is a warm dessert that is packed with fibre and goodness. They’re super easy to make, and if you’re feeling naughty, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Heaven.

Whole Grain Pumpkin Pancakes

You can have this fluffy vegetarian delight as a morning meal or even as a treat throughout the day. Enjoy a whole lot of goodness with the vitamins in the pumpkin puree and wheat flour. You can sweeten it with maple syrup for some extra goodness.

Chai Tea Latte

If it’s a comforting drink you’re after, I suggest a chai tea latte. There’s just something comforting about the taste of cinnamon and clove. The drink won’t just warm you up on a chilly evening, the antioxidants that come with the black tea work wonders for your overall health.
