Met Gala: Theme for 2024 exhibition announced

Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion will be preceded by ‘fashion’s biggest night’, the MET Gala.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in New York has announced its highly-anticipated Costume Institute exhibition for 2024: Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

In 2024, the world-renowned, annual exhibition will bring together close to 250 pieces from over four centuries. United by their nature-related iconography, these garments and accessories will be used as a metaphor to reflect themes of rebirth, renewal, fragility, and ephemerality, which are as present in fashion as they are in nature.

To bring the concept to life, various media are expected to be used, including augmented reality, smells, artificial intelligence, x-rays, video animation, soundscapes, and light projections.

Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion is being supported by Spanish fashion house Loewe, as well as Condé Nast. The latter has been a big part of the exhibition for decades, with Dame Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, a Condé Nast publication, organising an annual fundraising gala for the MET ahead of the Costume Institute exhibition.

The MET Gala has been dubbed ‘fashion’s biggest night’ and sees celebrities descending onto the MET wearing extravagant and awe-inspiring fashion. 2024 will be no different, and we can’t wait to see how fashion designers, stylists, and the celebrities themselves interpret the theme.
Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion runs from May 10 to September 2, 2024.
