Andy Stott to perform at Liquid

The event is part of the Malta Society of Arts’ Performing Arts Programme Sustain-Delay.

Manchester-based electronic music producer Andy Stott is set to make his eagerly awaited Malta debut at Liquid Club on June 22. This event is part of the Malta Society of Arts’ (MSA) Performing Arts Programme titled Sustain-Delay which is done in collaboration with Arts Council Malta.

The concert, titled Echoes & Shadows, marks the first time an MSA event will extend beyond its historic Palazzo De La Salle to one of Malta’s most iconic music venues, Liquid Club. The evening promises an eclectic mix of international and local talent, featuring key figures from Malta’s vibrant underground electronic music scene who will perform alongside headliner Stott.

As the third event in the 2024 Sustain-Delay programme, Echoes & Shadows will be bringing innovative and genre-defying music to Maltese audiences. This concert will delve into the realms of IDM (intelligent dance music) and techno, offering an unforgettable night of pulsating rhythms and immersive soundscapes tailored for the local electronic music aficionados.

Andy Stott, renowned for his textured compositions and narrative-driven sets, will perform a 50-minute set that will undoubtedly captivate the audience. With critically acclaimed albums such as Luxury Problems (2012) and Faith In Strangers (2014) earning him global recognition, including a coveted spot in Pitchfork’s shortlist for Best New Album of the Year, Stott’s music has not only dominated the electronic music scene but has also been featured in high-profile settings like Chanel’s Metiers d’Art Collection (2023) and Boiler Room, one of the most recognised electronic music series the world over.

To complement Stott’s unique style, Sustain-Delay’s Artistic Director Kurt Buttigieg has curated a lineup featuring local electronic music stalwarts Tina, Giaçinté, and GHOSTT. These artists are known for their innovative approaches to the electronic genre, making them perfect complements to Stott’s pioneering sound.

“This lineup furthers our mission to nurture alternative and adventurous music in unexpected and exciting directions,” says Buttigieg. “We have received highly positive feedback from the public for our previous events, and we are immensely grateful for the support from the Malta Society of Arts and Arts Council Malta. Through Sustain-Delay, we aim to demonstrate that the legacy and interest in diverse electronic music in Malta are very much alive and thriving.”

Reflecting on the unique nature of this event and its significance for MSA, President Adrian Mamo says: “The Malta Society of Arts has long been synonymous with fostering creativity across various disciplines. With Echoes & Shadows, we are excited to venture into the dynamic world of electronic music, showcasing our commitment to evolving and expanding our artistic horizons. We believe this event will set a new precedent for future performances.”

Echoes & Shadows will take placeat Liquid Club on June 22. Doors open at 9.30pm. Tickets are available from www.showshappening.com.
