5 ways to get your oomph back mid-afternoon without caffeine

Too many coffee shots aren’t the solution.

Put on some upbeat music

Sometimes all you need is a mood boost to regain that oomph. Put on a favorite upbeat track − something that makes you want to move or smile. Dance around a little if you’re in a place where you can, or simply enjoy the energy boost that good music can provide.

Take a brisk walk

Step away from the desk and take a 10-minute walk, whether it’s around the block or a few laps inside your office. A burst of fresh air and movement can get your blood circulating, re-energising both body and mind. Plus, the change of scenery works wonders for breaking up that afternoon haze.

Do a quick stretch session

Stretching your body is like hitting the refresh button on your energy levels. Take five minutes to do some gentle stretches — like reaching for the sky, doing a few neck rolls, or bending down to touch your toes. This helps release any built-up tension and boosts your focus

Try a breathing exercise

Deep breathing can do more for your energy than you might think. Take a few moments to do some deep belly breathing. Inhale through your nose for a count of four, hold for four, and then exhale through your mouth for six. Repeat this for a couple of minutes to feel more grounded, refreshed, and ready to tackle what’s next.

Eat an energising snack

Reach for a snack that packs in the protein, fibre, and healthy fats. A handful of almonds, a slice of apple with peanut butter, or some Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey can do wonders. Avoid the sugar crash by sticking with these balanced snacks that give a slow release of energy.
