Almost 25 years since the start of Malcolm in the Middle, Disney+ is welcoming many of the show’s original cast members, who will be reprising their roles for a four-part special revival.

Frankie Muniz, the actor who played Malcolm and who is now 39, took to social media to announce the news. He wrote that he had “been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.” Meanwhile, actors Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, who played Hal and Lois, Malcolm’s parents, have also been confirmed.

Malcolm in the Middle originally aired on Fox between January 2000 and May 2006, with 151 episodes in total. A black family comedy, the show looked at how a dysfunctional working-class family dealt with having a child prodigy, Malcolm. In the four new episodes, the storyline will follow Malcolm and his daughter as they navigate Hal and Lois’s 40th wedding anniversary party, which will undoubtedly be chaotic.

Speaking to Variety magazine, Disney Branded Television president, Ayo Davis, promised fans that the four new episodes would have “all the laughs, pranks and mayhem fans loved” about the original.

Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humour, heart and relatability,” she added. “Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.”

The dates of when the new episodes will drop on Disney+ is yet to be set. However, insiders have said that it’s likely to be toward the end of 2025 or the very beginning of 2026.
