Malta proudly secured ninth place among 25 participants in this year’s edition of the Schoolovision Song Contest 2026, thanks to the talented children of St Nicholas College, Mġarr Primary School.
The eTwinning project, which has reached its 18th edition, sees participating schools from Europe and beyond presenting a song accompanied by a video. On the eve of the Eurovision Song Contest, the schools meet virtually via video conference and the children have the chance to vote for their favourite entries.
The Maltese entry, When I was Young I Used to Think, earned an impressive 66 points, marking a historic moment for both the school and eTwinning Malta. We were all over the moon to place among the top 10 countries.

The inspiration for this year’s theme dates back to my childhood, when I eagerly flipped through the pages of Readers’ Digest which mum used to buy every month and remains popular to this day.
Among the articles that captured my attention at that time was one bearing the above title. I read it frequently and this idea never really drifted from my mind.
Along the years, I jotted down what I used to think as a child. These reflections eventually became part of this year’s song, enriched further by the creative ideas students contributed during a brainstorming session.

Before listening to our Schoolovision 2026 entry, I invite you to stop for a while and think of the days when you too were young and when your imagination knew no limits.
What did you think back then? I am sure you have countless memories to share with the outside world. Write them down and turn them into your own poem. You will be amazed how creative you are! Take a pen and paper and delve through the world of imagination and leave behind stress and negativity. Embrace the calmness, serenity and joy and share it with others around you.
