Ħoss Project returns to Malta with concert and free music masterclass

The Dutch-Maltese experimental ensemble are performing at Offbeat in Valletta today

Dutch-Maltese experimental ensemble Ħoss Project is back in Malta for a one-night performance in Valletta today, accompanied by a free masterclass aimed at musicians of all ages and experience levels.

The event will take place at Offbeat in Valletta and will mark the band’s first Maltese performance since introducing its new line-up during a visit last year.

The concert also forms part of the group’s promotion of an upcoming album and accompanying documentary, both recorded earlier this year.

Known for blending energetic polyrhythmic improvisation with atmospheric soundscapes, Ħoss Project combines influences from jazz, world music and experimental performance, creating music that evolves through collective improvisation and interaction between its members.

Ahead of the evening concert, the ensemble will host a free masterclass exploring improvisation, rhythm, polyrhythms, composition, performance and ensemble dynamics. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the musicians, ask questions about their creative process and, in some cases, perform alongside the band.

The workshop is open to musicians from all disciplines and backgrounds, regardless of age or level of experience. While admission is free, donations will be accepted to support the initiative.

Doors for the masterclass open at 5.30pm, with the session running from 6.30pm to 8pm. The concert will begin at 8.30pm and continue until 10pm.

Tickets for the performance cost €15. Audiences attending the performance will have the opportunity to pre-order the band’s new release on double vinyl or CD.

Organisers are encouraging those wishing to attend either the workshop, the concert or both to reserve their place in advance through the event’s ticketing platform or by contacting Ħoss Project via its social media channels.
