Recital by Paris-based Maltese concert pianist in Sliema

Paris-based Maltese concert pianist Bernice Sammut Attard will present a piano recital at the Jesus of Nazareth parish church in Sliema on Saturday, June 6 at 8pm.

The programme features works by Wagner/Liszt, Prokofiev, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms and admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Born in 2000, the Maltese pianist and violinist is currently based in Paris, where she continues to refine her artistry at the École Normale de Musique de Paris under the guidance of Marian Rybicki and Qing Li.

Sammut Attard began her musical studies at an early age in Malta, studying piano with Karen Briscoe and violin with Marcelline Agius. At the age of 16, she became the first Maltese musician to attend the prestigious Chetham’s School of Music in the UK, where she studied piano and violin as joint principal studies with Duncan Glenday and Ruth Hahn respectively.

In 2023, she graduated with a Master of Arts in Music degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, having previously graduated with a first class honours Bachelor of Music degree from the same institution in 2022. Throughout her studies, she worked with distinguished professors, including Petras Geniušas, Sinae Lee and Fali Pavri.

Over the years, Sammut Attard has performed in various countries including France, Poland, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, Armenia, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Kazakhstan, the UK and the US. She has appeared in prestigious venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall and Stoller Hall in the UK, and the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Malta, and collaborated with several international orchestras such as the Kyiv

Virtuosi Orchestra and the Porto Conservatory Orchestra. On February 26, 2024, she performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Anu Tali.

Sammut Attard is the winner of numerous competitions, most notably the Malta Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in 2018. She is currently supported by the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation and the Janatha Stubbs Foundation. She is also a scholarship holder of the École Normale de Musique de Paris.

Saturday’s concert is being held on the occasion of the feast of St Dominic in Sliema.
