Sliema Arts Festival celebrates creativity

One of Malta’s leading urban arts events is taking place from July 17 to 19, centred around the campaign ‘By Humans. For Humans.’
The programme includes 35 local and international street artists.

Sliema’s promenade, Independence Gardens and the beach between Exiles and Surfside will once again turn into a cultural destination from July 17 to 19 for this year’s edition of the Sliema Arts Festival.

Held every two years during the third weekend of July, the festival has established itself as one of Malta’s leading urban arts events, attracting thousands of residents and visitors during the peak of the summer season.

This year’s edition is centred around the inspiring public campaign ‘By Humans. For Humans.’ − a celebration of human creativity, imagination and connection in an increasingly digital world. Complementing this vision is the festival’s curatorial framework, ‘Error 404: Human Not Found’, presented by artistic director Rachel Formosa, which invites artists and audiences to reflect on the evolving relationship between humanity and technology through contemporary artistic expression.

The programme includes 35 local and international street artists; live mural painting and street art; five dedicated music areas featuring live performances and top local and international DJs; an artisan market, organised in collaboration with Selfmade Market, bringing together more than 25 local and international makers; a dedicated Children’s Area at Independence Gardens; dance and performance art; family-friendly activities; food and beverage areas; and interactive cultural experiences throughout Sliema

The festival will open with an official opening ceremony on Friday, July 17 at 7pm at Independence Gardens, presided over by the Minister for Local Government and Public Works. The ceremony will also be attended by representatives of the Sliema local council, Arts Council Malta, festival partners, sponsors, artists and invited guests.
